Which one sounds better?

First we put on our hiking boots, and then we went set off down the trial.

or

After we put on our hiking boots, we set off down the trial.

Which one sounds better?
The second sounds better. The first is just superfluous. You don%26#039;t need a play-by-play. First, then, next... a transition is good every once in a while, but don%26#039;t exhaust the reader.
Reply:after putting on our hiking boots, we started down the trail
Reply:First one doesn%26#039;t make sense %26quot;and then we went set off down the trial%26quot;? then we went set rewrite it.
Reply:The latter sounds better. And it%26#039;s %26#039;trail%26#039; not %26#039;trial%26#039;. Also consider: %26quot;We put on our hiking boots before setting off down the trail.%26quot;
Reply:Second one.
Reply:the second one has a better flow the first one is very choppy
Reply:The second sentence sounds better to me. Also, in your first sentence, it should be %26quot;First, we put on our hiking boots; then, we set off down the trail.%26quot;
Reply:After we put on our hiking boots,we set off down the trail.
Reply:The second sentence sounds grammatically better to me.
Reply:After we put on our hiking boots, we set off down the trail.

Need to convert boy shoe size to mens shoe size?

I have been searching all over the internet and have come up with no answer. My son wears a youth size 7.5 shoe, he is 13. I can not find the right kind of shoes and boots in his size in the store or online. I need to know if there is a way to figure out what a youth size 7.5 shoe would convert into in mens shoes. I can%26#039;t find this conversion anywhere. Everything I find on measurements shows the mens shoes being too big, even the smallest sizes I can find.

Help! I%26#039;m trying to get him a good pair of hiking boots and some sneakers for his Boy Scout campouts and hiking trips.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What do you think wearing Jeans and spiked shoes for the trails in Grand Canyon?

I am soon going to stay at Grand Canyon for 5 days from March 10th to 15th. I will stay one of the lodges on the south rim, and hiked down a trail to the canyon, the Phantom Ranch. Do you think that a jeans is OK for hiking? I am thinking to ware thermal bottoms under the jeans. And the shoes. I understand that the hiking boots is the best, but I don’t have one. How about the spiked shoes for soccer, or is it better to wear adidas sneakers? What is the best clothing to suit this hike on this season?

What do you think wearing Jeans and spiked shoes for the trails in Grand Canyon?
I have worn jeans while hiking in the canyon and they are OK (unless it is really warm or you run into rain/snow), but I would recommend something lighter. Those light, fast-drying synthetic pants with the zip-off lower sections (to make shorts) are ideal. But yes, while not the most comfortable, jeans will do. Unless it is extremely cold, than wearing thermals underneath with probably be way to warm (not to mention harder to hike in).

As for shoes... if you are not carrying a heavy pack (and you can%26#039;t get hiking boots), than sneakers are probably OK. I would definitely NOT recommend spiked soccer shoes. Most of the trails in the canyon are rock or hard packed dirt. Traction is usually not a big issue.

If you are worried about snow and ice in March (a possibility) - it is mostly along just the first mile or so of the trails (when there is any at all) and while spiked shoes might help a little there, but for sections of trail without snow/ice, the spikes would be very difficult to walk with. If it looks like there will be snow, look into getting a $20 pair of %26#039;YakTraks%26#039; which are a wire/rubber mesh that goes over street shoes or boots and act like snow chains.

Temperatures vary a great deal between the top and bottom and weather can change quickly, especially in March. I just came back from a backpacking trip there and when we started hiking up, it was clear and sunny and we wore t-shirts. By the time we reached the top, it was overcast and snowing and we were all heavily dressed. Be prepared for those extremes.

A few general notes about your hike... if you are planning on going all the way to the river and back in one day (a 12-14 mile trip), than I would recommend that you reconsider. That is not a good thing to attempt for your first canyon hike and it does not sound like you are very well prepared. While some people have no problem doing it, many others die - and most of them were in pretty good shape (a couple years ago a top Boston Marathon finisher died while trying to go to the river and back in a day). Until you know how your body handles the canyon, you should try something smaller.

If you are planning on going down to the bottom and staying the night at Phantom Ranch, than you should know that you generally need reservations a year in advance. Even the backpacker campground there opens for permits 4 months ahead and sells out early (although you can sometimes get lucky with cancellations).

There is no law that says hikers have to go all the way to the river and back in a day. Even if you have no problem, you will not get to enjoy the trip much. For a much better day hike experience, I would recommend taking South Kaibab trail down to Cedar Ridge or maybe Skeleton Point. Or take the Hermit Trail over to Dripping Springs.
Reply:I was there, and they said that temperatures in the canyon can exceed 120 degrees Farenheight. I would recomend light clothing, and I think sneakers will be all right. I have no problem hiking with them. They are comfortable.
Reply:I think you should wear a comfortable pair of sweatpants,a t-shirt,and old sneakers. This is comfortable on a walking or hiking trail. You won%26#039;t be freezing but you won%26#039;t be roasting.
Reply:It is best to wear layers. Spiked shoes may be too difficult. Solid tennis shoes are better if you do no have hiking boots. Make sure the shoes you wear are nice and broken in so you do not get blisters on your trip. JUST HAVE FUN!
Reply:jeans are a terrible thing to wear when hiking. Once you start working up a sweat, cotton jeans will absorb the sweat, and then get very cold.

Dress in layers. If it%26#039;s a sunny day when you start hiking up- you%26#039;ll want to be in shorts (it could easily be 75 degrees at phantom ranch). But- also have layers. If there is a storm, you could see rain (at the bottom) and snow on the rim.

A pair of hiking boots is highly recommended. But- they better be well broken in. You don%26#039;t want blisters. Bring the comfortable sneakers as a backup. Leave the spiked shoes at home.

Is it safe to go barefoot if you're overweight?

Attn barefooters!

I am 15 lbs. overweight by the BMI charts, but maybe 45 lbs. over my healthiest body weight. (Those charts allow a LOT of leeway.)

Is it safe for me to go barefoot all the time? Or do I need more arch support than I would get from going barefoot? (My feet have already spread out some. Well-fitting shoes are hard to find, and I would like to prevent them from spreading out any more.)

I%26#039;m thinking of those hiking boots they sell to people who hike the AT. If you%26#039;re carrying a 40-lb. pack, they say, you need a lot of rigidity in your boot. And isn%26#039;t being overweight the equivalent of carrying a big ole backpack?

Thanks for your thoughts! And in particular, thanks to anyone with personal experience with this issue.

Is it safe to go barefoot if you%26#039;re overweight?
Your feet are widening because they are trying to achieve thier natural and normal shape. Most people do not realise that they are practicing a mild form of foot binding by wearing tight shoes that do not conform to the shape of thier feet. The only concern I can think of regarding you being barefoot is the possiblity of nuropathy, where you may have lost some feeling in your feet. It is common for over weight people to to develop diabities which leads to nurapothy. In these cases you could injure your feet and not know it. If you feel more comfortable being barefoot, than by all means do it. You have muscles in your feet and legs that are probably underdeveloped because of the overdependancy of footwear that has all kinds of support. Walking barefoot causes these muscles to become stronger and better developed over time and will oinly be healthier for you in the long run. Good luck and happy barefooting.

Some usefull info about barefooting can be found at....
Reply:i do
Reply:find a store that offers wide widths

Reply:Well, if you%26#039;ve gained weight too rapidly you%26#039;re at risk of your arches falling. So, I suggest always wearing shoes with adequate arch support. Walking barefoot on uneven surfaces is beneficial, though, as it strenghtens the foot muscles/arches.
Reply:Go bare foot if you want, it%26#039;s safe depending on what your walking on. I%26#039;d say they will may your ankles and foot region stronger bare foot. YOu don%26#039;t need support, just make sure you stretch them before n after. Instead of shoes to keep them from going out, try the old fashion molding trick. Take a soft peice of cloth thats desently sturdy and loosely tie it around a foot, so it%26#039;s not to tight, but not to loose. Wear that most of the time and you%26#039;ll see results, but mainly it will help with foot sculpting far as fat n so on.. This trick was used in gladatoirs for sandels fitting one size..

Being overweight isn%26#039;t the equavilant to carrying a backpack, considering thats your own body weight and it%26#039;s not as much of a challenge as carrying something elses weight. I%26#039;d say start wih a lighter back pack then work to 40lbs. AGAIn being overweight doesn%26#039;t count as the backpack.

The shoes. I know that, I have fat feet, but they are muscular which confuses me, but I guess my body pushes them down and gravity does the rest. I have to wear larger shoes because of my fat feet, but eventually I just started ording shoes off line and went to outlet stores..
Reply:barefoot is the least of your problems if you%26#039;re overweight. 15-45 lbs is a big stretch. one is overweight and the other is obese. make a decision.

insurance registration

I just registered a domain name and part of it is copyrighted, can I be sued if I turn it into a business?

Greetings,

My first question on Yahoo! I just registered a new domain name for an entrepreneurial business idea I have. Lets say my new business name is NorthStarBoots (a hiking boot company) and it was available to register as a domain name (so I did). Upon doing a google search, I discovered someone had already registered and copywrited NorthStar.com (they are a GPS navigation company). They have nothing to do with hiking boots. So, lets say in 5 years my company NorthStarBoots has grown into a multimillion dollar operation. QUESTION: Can NorthStar.com come after me because I am using their name as the %26quot;first part%26quot; of my company%26#039;s name? Of course, the product and services offered are very different - I%26#039;m just using %26quot;NorthStar%26quot; in my co.%26#039;s name NorthStarBoots.com

If you have any good links to ask this same question - I%26#039;d be grateful. Intellectual property...

Thanks!!!

Richard

p.s. The above co. names I made up to ask the question.

I just registered a domain name and part of it is copyrighted, can I be sued if I turn it into a business?
As for as domain is concerns any domain which is available you can register and run your own net based business on that domain name do body can claim it.

if you register your company with northstarboots.com and take the legal copyrights. I dint think there is a problem. you can not run your business as northstar as it is already registered with other user right. if you are running a business like northstarboots then the complete business name will be taken in consideration.

Further it is not good practise to run your business with a different business name. As for domain marketing you have to register in diff rent search engines and SEO (search engine optimisation) so when different people will search your company name or some keywords...this will cause you problem. for market ting. better to find the domain name suitable to your business.

Shoes in Rome?

My boyfriend and I are going to Rome in a week. We will be backpacking. As a result, we will not be able to carry a lot of items with us.

What shoes should I bring? I have a pair of black ankle boots, a pair of tan moccasins by Timberland, and a pair of hiking boots that are black and tan. The hiking boots have the best soles. But are they took casual? I wear a lot of flare leg pants, so my shoes aren%26#039;t seen as much as on others.

Shoes in Rome?
Just take the shoes which will fit your program. If you plan to walk all over Rome (and you should) then take the most comfortable ones.

Better to be comfortable than to see Rome with blisters on your heels and toes. Today people travel with all sorts of clothing, there is no set style anymore especially with the young .Go have fun and put a penny in the Fountain of Trevi for me so that perhaps I may go back again one day.
Reply:just take the shoes u want to take does it really matter!
Reply:If you are going to be walking a lot tennis shoes are a must.. who cares what it looks like as long as you are comfortable. The walkways in Rome are cobblestone and very hard to walk on especially in heels.

this day in history

Math question?

PawTraxx manufactures hiking boots. The production facility has fixed costs of $200 a day and total costs of $6,200 per day at an output of 100 pair of boots per day. Which of the following equations represents the daily production cost based on the number of pairs of boots manufactured?

(Let C(x) represent the daily production cost and x represent the number of pairs of boots manufactured)

a. C(x) = 62x

b. C(x) = 60x + 200

c. C(x) = 60x - 200

d. C(x) = 70x + 200

Math question?
Total costs = $6200 per 100 pairs of boots (including $200 fixed costs)

Cost per pair of boots = ($6200 - $200 (fixed))/100 = $60 per pair of boots

C(x) = cost per pair of boots + fixed costs = 60x +200
